There are lots of reasons why everyone should consider buying a home in Michigan, but five immediately come to mind.
The first is, if you earn $100,000 a year and live in Columbus Ohio, you could enjoy the same standard of living in Lansing on about $10,000 a year less.
Then there’s healthcare. If you’re planning for your retirement years, for example, no place beats Ann Arbor. It offers an abundance of beautiful independent living facilities as well as hands-on skilled nursing homes.
Then there’s the University of Michigan Hospitals and Health Centers which rank amongst the top 15 in the country. So does the St. Joseph’s Mercy Health System. 580 physicians per 100,000 residents, compared to the U.S. average of 223, is not bad. Healthcare is a major concern for everyone and the quality of healthcare you can receive in Ann Arbor can’t be beat. you’ll find. Another reason why Michigan is an ideal place to buy a home is the diversity of architecture you find. Arts & Crafts homes, English Tudors, Prairie Schools, Georgian Revivals, and Dutch Colonials are just some of what you’ll find in a town like Pleasant Ridge. It’s conveniently located only a half an hour from Detroit, but a home can be bought there in the low $100,000′s. Better yet, you don’t end up with a beautiful home in a lousy school district. The average size of a class in Prairie Ridge is 18 students. They also spend more than $2,000 per student than the nationwide average.
Troy, Michigan is as safe as a city can be. In 2008 Troy it was voted the safest city in Michigan and 21st safest in the United States. It’s not far from Detroit, but there’s not a single neighborhood in Troy that you should feel nervous about living in. In the northern area of Troy, you actually find a broad array of luxury homes. A mortgage loan can be attained relatively easily.
Last but not least, some of the best colleges in the country are based in Michigan. Parents with kids enrolled in an academic institution here are going to get more than their money’s worth. Start with the University of Michigan. In-state tuition is almost three times less than what you’d pay at a private college, yet its one of the most prestigious academic institutions in the world. Michigan State University has one of the best-funded and most high-tech aviation programs in the country. Ferris State University in Big Rapids has a state of the art automobile design program that the U.S. branches of international car manufacturers are known to recruit from. Michigan State University recently opened a $10 million automotive engineering lab.
That may have been more than five reasons, but don’t believe the doom and gloom stories you hear about this great state. With Ford and General Motors doing better than anyone expected, the automotive industry here is actually expanding. Michigan is growing. A Michigan mortgage is a good idea. Better to buy Michigan real estate while it’s still affordable.
